There are variations in how Reiki is presented and taught. Some are to be avoided; including attempts to create exclusivity by charging exorbitant fees, teaching all three levels in the course of a one- or two-day workshop, learning Reiki through the internet and casually receiving attunements in large groups and/or random situations. Please check in with your inner guidance and integrity. The practice of Reiki is about more than making money, getting done quickly, or holding a paper that says that you are certified.
The healing energy that is part of the practice of Reiki, the Reiki symbols and the Reiki Attunement process are both protected and enhanced by the integrity of each practitioner. The symbols and methods for teaching are kept secret for this very reason. Just as an object can carry energy consciousness which is made up of thoughts and emotions the Reiki symbols and practice are infused with a particular energy. Every practitioner that utilizes Reiki with clarity and compassion adds more energy consciousness. By learning Reiki you become part of a lineage. Treating the practice of Reiki as sacred protects the purity of the energy consciousness and taps into many centuries of healing energy. We honor the legacy of sacredness of Reiki, Reiki Symbols and Reiki Attunements by taking care that they are only passed on to others who have had the appropriate formal Reiki training.
